πΏπ¦ Built in South Africa Β· Grade R to Grade 3
A new bedtime story every night - starring your child, at exactly their reading level.
Loomic turns the nightly reading battle into the part of the day your child asks for. And it shows you, week by week, whether they're actually moving up a level.
Free plan: 2 story readings a day, one child profile, no card, no ads. Cancel anytime.
You're not imagining it
It's 18:00. Homework is open. She knows her letters, but she guesses at the words instead of sounding them out. The teacher has 38 children in the class and told you at parents' evening that she "needs more reading practice at home." Nobody ever taught you how to teach blending. By 19:30 everyone is tired and the tablet wins.
of South African Grade 4s cannot read for meaning in any language - the lowest of 43 countries assessed.
PIRLS 2021Grade 4 is the wall
Grades R to 3 are "learning to read." From Grade 4 it flips to "reading to learn" - textbooks, instructions, maths word problems. Nobody teaches reading after that. It's assumed.
The report card won't warn you
A teacher with 38 learners physically cannot hear every child read every week. It isn't her fault. It does mean most parents find out in Grade 4, when the gap is already years wide.
What actually fixes it
Fifteen warm minutes a night, at the right level. Too hard and reading means feeling stupid. Too easy and it's boring. Finding that sweet spot every single night is the hard part. That's the part we built.
How Loomic works
Your child is the main character
Her name, her hair, her favourite clothes, her adventure. A child who fights bedtime reading stops fighting when the book is about her.
Written to her level, not her age
Five reading levels from pre-reader to fluent reader. Every story lands where she wins but still stretches - that's the sweet spot that builds a reader.
Sounding out, not guessing
Phonics, spelling and letter-tracing activities alongside the stories - so she stops guessing at words from the picture and starts blending them properly.
"Read it to me" nights
Narration highlights each word as it's spoken, so she can follow along on the evenings when you're running on empty. She still reads. You get to sit down.
Proof it's working
Stories finished, words met, time spent, level reached. The screenshot you send your partner and your mother when she moves up a level.
You hold the controls
PIN-protected parent settings and daily reading time limits. No ads, no video, no autoplay, nothing pulling her to the next dopamine hit.

Is my child actually on track?
A free 10-minute checklist you can do at the kitchen table tonight. One page per grade (R, 1, 2 and 3) with exactly what your child should be able to read by the end of that year, the red flags most parents only recognise in hindsight, and three free things to do tonight if you tick one.
Built on the Department of Basic Education's national reading benchmarks (FUNS) and the CAPS Foundation Phase curriculum - the same standards every South African school is measured on. No spam. One checklist, straight to your inbox.

The questions parents actually ask
Is this just another game pretending to be educational?
Fair question, and it's the right one to ask. Loomic is reading. Words on a page, at the level your child is actually at, with phonics, spelling and tracing activities attached to them.
What it deliberately isn't: there are no ads, no videos, no autoplay, no infinite feed, and no rewards for tapping fast. Nothing on the screen is engineered to keep your child there longer than the reading takes. Daily reading time limits sit behind a PIN that only you have.
How much data does it use?
Loomic is text and illustrations, not video. There's no streaming, no ads loading in the background and no autoplay pulling down content your child never asked for - which is where most "free" children's apps quietly spend your bundle.
That's real money every month. How do I know it works before I pay?
You don't have to take our word for it, and you don't have to enter a card to find out. The free plan gives you two story readings a day and the progress tracking, indefinitely. No trial countdown, no auto-charge at the end of a fortnight.
Use it for two weeks. If your child stops opening it, you've lost nothing. If she's asking for it at bedtime and the progress screen shows her level moving, then decide.
Is this actually made for South African children?
Yes. Loomic (Pty) Ltd is a South African company, built in Johannesburg, aimed squarely at Grade R to Grade 3 here. Our free reading checklist is built on the Department of Basic Education's own reading benchmarks and the CAPS Foundation Phase curriculum - the standards your child's school is measured on.
What ages is it for?
Grade R to Grade 3 - roughly ages 4 to 9 - across five reading levels from pre-reader to fluent reader. Because Loomic works off reading level rather than age, a Grade 3 child reading at a Grade 1 level gets Grade 1 material without it looking babyish to her.
How do I cancel or delete my account?
Cancel the subscription from your Apple or Google account's subscription settings - once you do, we can't charge you again. To delete your Loomic account and data entirely, email support@loomic.co.za from the address you signed up with. We process deletions within 48 hours.
